ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING
Now and even before Arnold and Laura retired. They have always looked for somthing to keep them busy, but also somthing that they could enjoy doing. Gardening, Cooking, Scootering, Genealogy, Bird watching and Photography are some of the things they have found to be most enjoyable for them. Here is a brief description of their experiences in each of these.
CONTAINER GARDENING
Although Laura and Arnold have always tried to have some kind of a garden there was a time after they moved to their home on Memorial Dr. that they had to quit having a conventional garden. That area has a large population of deer, ground hogs and other critters. Every thing they planted became food for those critters and that's not what it was meant to be.
That's when they discovered container gardening. Container gardening allowed them to grow things on the patio. For the most part, the animals left them alone and now they can do it on their deck.
Below are photos of what their deck and yard looked like the past couple of years.

Cooking
No one has ever accused Laura and Arnold of being one of the top chefs in the world, but they still like to experiment in the kitchen every now and then. They store most of their recipes on "The All recipes" web page, to see these recipes click here

The price of gas became a little to high to suit Arnold. He decided it was time to do something about it. His first thought was to get a battery powered bicycle, but Laurie thought a motor scooter would be more of what he needed. It didn’t take much to change Arnold’s mind. 90 mpg did it. Then after Arnold got his scooter and Laurie saw how much fun he was having she wanted one too . Yep! She got one, but it really wasn’t for Laurie. She couldn’t sit on the seat and touch the ground with her feet at stop signs etc. So we sold her scooter and got her a trike. Now we can go scooting together and we both can have some fun.
Now More Scootering For Laurie
Yes as of Laurie says no more scootering and she has sold her trick to Arnold and Laura's Pastor and his wife. Arnold and Laurie hopes they enjoy it and have many years of use from it.
Arnold would like to have somthing a little bigger some day like a Honda Silverwing 600 . It's still a scooter, but it will do highway speeds. He would also like to get Laurie one and have it made into a Trike for her. Click Here to see what they would do then. Can't you see them riding out to Sturgis some time. Or how about this. Laurie's trike would look something like this.
Think scooters are just for, you know, scooting around town? Think again: The Silver Wing is built for both the long- and short-haul with its full-coverage bodywork and protective windscreen. Its comfortable wide seat and ample, on-board storage are just the ticket for adventurous riders. Add its notable fuel economy plus Honda reliability and a Honda Silver Wing is a great substitute for that second car!

PHOTOGRAPHY
Among the many things that Arnold is not the best at, photography is one of them. But he likes doing it so he does it any way. He particularly likes to photograph the weather. Below are some photos that he took of the first snow storm in their area in over a year on Dec. 12, 2012

After one of our winter storms Arnold wanted his drive cleaned around his truck when they were cleaning the rest of it so when the grounds keepers got to their condo he moved his truck so the whole drive would get cleaned. Then when they were done he parked it back in the drive again and went in side. Well, of course there was still a layer of ice that was under the snow . Shortly after Arnold went inside a neighbor called to ask if he needed some help with his truck. Of course Arnold had no idea why he would need help until the neighbor explained that the truck was sitting out in the street. As it turned out after the truck was returned to the drive and Arnold had went inside his truck which was setting on the ice that was under the snow slid down the drive and out in the street. A little sand was thrown on the drive and the truck was returned to the drive.

A Hint of Winter (11/11/2013)
Oh No, Don't let the snow come down. My back's got a kink in it and I can't shovel.
Arnold and Laura have not taken any 2013/2014 winter pictures yet, but brother Mel sent some very good ones and we are using them for now.

SPRING FLOODS ON THE CEDAR
Quite often in the spring when the ice breaks on the Cedar just above the dam in Cedar Rapids an ice jam will form. This will cause the river to over flow and flood the land near by. Below are some photos of the 2013 Ice Jam that caused a minor flood.

The Summer Storms
Not all the following pictures were taken by Arnold or Laura but they are all good examples of the beautiful and all mighty force and power that they see and respect before, during and after a thunder storm
On Sept. 19, 2013 We Finally Got Some Rain, After a very long dry spell.
but!!! we didn't need the wind to.
Some unusual clods formed after a ran storm on June 20, 2016
These next pictures were not taken by ether Arnold or Laura, put was on a web page belonging to John Gumm of Local 12 News in Cincinnati,OH. However Arnold's fascination with storms and the power that is in them and there clouds caused him to want them on this Site.
What we have here is a classic shelf cloud which forms on the gust front of a thunderstorm but with a twist - fractus clouds are hanging down from the shelf cloud. These little cloud fingers form when moist air is pushed upwards, cools and condenses into cloud droplets.
